Sreedhara Chandra Sekhara Sastry
Better known as S. C. S. Sastry — making mathematics visible, practical and enjoyable.
Sreedhara Chandra Sekhara Sastry is a mathematics educator, author, workshop facilitator and creator of hands-on mathematical teaching aids from Vijayawada. His work rests on a simple belief: children understand mathematics more confidently when they can see, touch, build and experiment with its concepts.
After earning his B.Sc. from Government Degree College, Nandyal, he was deeply influenced by the Trachtenberg Speed System of Basic Mathematics, which reshaped his approach to teaching. Years of classroom work, educational research and interaction with teachers, students and parents led him to develop the Mathematics Laboratory — an activity-based environment with more than 250 mathematical models.
These models help learners explore arithmetic, algebra and geometry. Instead of only memorising a formula, students can investigate how it works, understand how it is derived and discover where it can be applied. His wider aim includes bringing practical mathematics learning to schools and rural children across the State.

Recognised by education leaders
Maths Lab inaugurations have included occasions associated with Chukka Ramaiah Garu and Smt. K. Sandhya Rani, then Commissioner of School Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh.
“Mr. Sastri is a noted teacher. He makes young kids perceive unknown objects and creates models to make the kids understand the objects. Let me congratulate him and request him to continue his pursuit with passion.”— Chukka Ramaiah
His educational philosophy
Mathematics should not be presented as a collection of rules to memorise. When learners interact with models, test ideas and discover patterns themselves, abstract concepts become meaningful.
The Mathematics Laboratory gives children the freedom to:
- Explore concepts independently
- Experiment with mathematical relationships
- Verify formulas and results
- Develop logical and spatial thinking
- Learn through observation and activity
- Replace fear with curiosity and confidence
Every learner deserves to enjoy mathematics
Every learner deserves the opportunity to experience mathematics as an understandable, creative and enjoyable subject.
A Mathematics Laboratory does more than add teaching materials to a classroom. It creates an environment in which students ask questions, investigate ideas and develop a lasting relationship with mathematics.
