What is a Mathematics Laboratory?
A Mathematics Laboratory is an activity-based learning space where students explore mathematical ideas using physical models, puzzles, measuring tools, constructions and experiments.
Who developed Maths Lab SCS?
Maths Lab SCS was developed by mathematics educator and author Sreedhara Chandra Sekhara Sastry (S. C. S. Sastry) through years of teaching, workshops and research into practical mathematics education. He received the Best Innovative Teacher Award from AMTI, Chennai, and the Dr Sanjeevaraya Sharma Award from Ramanujan Academy.
Which classes can use the laboratory?
The models are designed to support students from KG to Class X. The exact selection can be planned according to the classes and curriculum followed by the school.
What concepts are covered?
The collection includes models and activities related to arithmetic, algebra, geometry, fractions, measurements, mensuration, shapes, spatial reasoning and other school-level mathematics concepts.
How many models are included?
The complete Mathematics Laboratory collection contains more than 250 models. The number supplied to a particular school may depend on the selected package, classes served and available space.
Does the school need a separate room?
A dedicated room is ideal, but it may not always be necessary. Depending on the school’s requirements, models can also be organised in an activity room, resource room or suitable classroom display area.
Are teachers trained to use the models?
Teacher orientation can be included as part of the implementation. Teachers are shown how individual models relate to classroom topics and how students can use them during activities.
Do you conduct workshops for students?
Yes. Student workshops can include mathematical model-making, practical problem-solving and activity-based demonstrations.
Do you conduct workshops for teachers?
Yes. Teacher workshops focus on using mathematical aids, explaining abstract concepts and introducing activity-based teaching methods.
Are programmes available for parents?
Special workshops have been conducted for mothers and parents to help them support children’s mathematics learning at home using simple and understandable approaches.
What is Ganitaavadhanam?
Ganitaavadhanam is a mathematical demonstration programme involving mental calculation, memory, logical thinking and the rapid solution of number problems. Some programmes also include Aprasutha Prasangam, in which learners continue solving problems while answering unrelated questions designed to test concentration.
Can the laboratory be customised?
Yes. The setup can be planned according to the school’s classes, curriculum, available space and educational priorities.
Do you work with schools outside Vijayawada?
Maths Lab SCS has worked with schools and conducted educational programmes in different parts of India. Contact us with your location to discuss delivery, installation and workshop possibilities.
Is continuing support available?
Guidance can be provided to help schools implement the laboratory effectively after installation. The exact support arrangement can be discussed during consultation.
How long does installation take?
